Your teaching assignment

As well as fresh teaching from John, international guest trainers, practice groups and excercises each participant will be required to prepare a 70 to 80 minute session which should be designed to engage the group though a mixture of theoretical input and practical experiential somatic learning.

This page is designed to catalyse your thinking about an engaging way of bringing your content to life. You will be supported in this as part of the supervision process with John. NOTEPlease do not be limited by the suggestions on this page – only the time is limited!

Session Structure

A suggested 4-part structure for your session:

1. An introduction to your topic and areas for application (target time: 10 minutes):

  • A verbal and/or visual introduction to your session
    • Why you find this area interesting and how you are exploring application.
  • The underpinning principles of your subject
    • The underlying systemic understanding, ‘theory’ or principles you are exploring / sharing

2. Experiential learning (target time: 60 minutes):

  • An exercise facilitated by you, or
  • A constellation facilitated by you built on the framework or perspective being shared, or
  • An exercise that you model and then invite the group to practice in pairs or small groups

3. Summary and handouts (target time 5 minutes)

  • A brief summary and distribution of your handouts

4. Q&A time (target time: 15 minutes for q&a and discussion)

  • A time for questions about application, content and discussion

This page is designed to catalyse your thinking about content and structure. You are encouraged to innovate and take yourself and your fellow learners to a new learning edge.

You will be supported in all this as part of the supervision process with John as required.

Session Content

The subject of your session needs to inform, educate and engage, furthering the learning of all. You should prepare a substantial hand-out to share after your session, together with further reading and links to others resources, so that every other member of the group has access to your knowledge and can rely on you as a source of insight and wisdom into your chosen subject. The following are initial examples, to stimulate your own thinking:

 Teach how to combine another perspective, framework or philosophy with the stance, principles and practices of this approach

    There are many other useful models and frameworks across the spectrum of coaching and facilitation approaches, many of which can be enhanced and brought to life using the constellations methodology. Share the richness of another approach brought to life with the applied philosophy of this and combine to design an engaging session that people can then apply in their work. 

Share a context specific application

Through description and facilitated exercises share a particular way that you apply the stance, principles and practices. Perhaps, for example, you’ve been using them in a unique combination and so can bring that to life in a way that others can learn from and apply themselves.

  • Support clients integrate feedback from a 360 process
  • Develop higher levels of Emotional Intelligence in a team
  • Designing Coaching programmes with a commissioning client
  • Systemic contracting with a team
  • Including a boss’s feedback in a coaching session
  • Welcome a new member into a team
  • Highlight the origins of conflict
  • Stakeholder mapping with a team or group
  • Clarify and separate entangled systems
  • Systemic supervision
  • Influence organisational design

Bring the systemic stance to life

Share how you have developed your own inner systemic stance and then facilitate an exercise to support the same in other group members, or


Share how your own journey into your Peacocks Tail of belongings, resources and entanglements has led you to greater clarity and facilitate an exercise with the group so that others can benefit in similar ways.

Bringing a systemic principle to life

The organising principles of systems

  • Share how you have taught leaders the systemic principles and then facilitate an exercise that brings that to life so that others can do it too.

Bringing a systemic practice or process to life

Through sharing and experiential learning bring a systemic practice or process to life through a guided exercise or constellation showing the key featureless and benefits in such a way that others can learn and apply themselves.

  • For example:
    • One-to-one application
      • A particular aspect of 1-2-1 application you’ve developed that you can share with the group and they can practice
    • Group application
      • A particular aspect of team or group application that you can share with the group
    • Sentences
      • A fresh understanding about the origins and application of the sentences and their impact
    • Conceptual
      • The integration of this approach with NLP, MBTI or other
    • Through sharing how you combine the stance, principles and practices when contracting with a client, group or team and designing an exercise framework in which the other group members can explore and develop your approach

Bring a systemic book you enjoy to life

Through sharing and exercises bring a book to life. For example the book you reviewed on Practitioner, or one that you have read since. Bring it to life with, for example, an engaging and interactive summary plus a mix of experiential exercise(s) that embed the learnings.


Through sharing and experiential learning conduct an experiment within established parameters

  • For example you may want to explore a particular theme or application and, through a structured but experiential approach, explore this with the group in such a way that everyone learns and benefits.

Note: There will be many alternatives to the initial suggestions above. You are free to follow your own energy and interest and develop a session that informs, involves and engages. You will be invited to share your approach prior to the start of the training in detail with John so as to ensure the highest quality mix of subjects and teaching methodologies.
